Cockpit as treasure house
published: Wednesday | December 13, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Who remembers the number of ferns that George Proctor found, described and listed many only found in this locale? Here we have the Cockpit Country which is an unexplored geological and ecological treasure house. Yet, I have not seen any government or private venture to exploit the area as ecologically pure.

We do not see the possibility of developing a rest and recreational facility for the enjoyment of visitors and natives alike. With the development of the area as an eco-tourism project, it would broaden the area of contact between visitor and native and make tourism more meaningful to those not now touched by it.

I am, etc.,
