Police National take charge of Super League
published: Wednesday | December 13, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

Police National took over sole leadership of the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Jamaica National (JN) Super League with a convincing 3-0 victory over Santos on Saturday.

Police National, who are on 13 points, opened up a three-point gap on second-placed Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) on 10 points after five rounds.

Goals by Howard McKenzie, Michael Cowen and Andre Palmer ensured that the lawmen remain the only unbeaten team in the league.

Calvin Lewis, coach of Police National, which lost star striker Kavin Bryan to premier league outfit Harbour View, said although his team is doing well there are areas that need strengthening.

Weak departments

Said Lewis: "We are still strengthening and are looking to bring in players for certain departments that are weak."

Although losing 0-2 to Constant Spring, the marching men of the JDF remain in second, one ahead of Santos on nine, with Bull Bay jumping four places into fourth on eight points after clipping Duhaney Park 1-0.

In other games, Meadhaven edged Maverley/ Hugenden 2-1; Cavalier and Greenwich Town played to a 1-1 draw, while Mountain View and Barbican played to a 0-0 stalemate.

Former premier league campaigner Constant Spring, who secured their first win of the season after beating JDF 2-0, moved off the bottom of the table on four points, one ahead of cellar team Barbican.

In the KSAFA/JN Major League, Rockfort maintained their one-point lead with a 3-1 win over Pembroke Hall, while Central Kingston stayed in touch, edging Seaview Gardens 1-0.

Fourth win

Rockfort, demoted from the 'A' League last season, are on 14 points from six games after securing their fourth win of the campaign. Central Kingston are on 13, three ahead of University of Technology, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Olympic Gardens.

In the KSAFA/JN Syd Bartlett league competition, Liguanea United joined Whitfield Town at the summit on 13 points after defeating Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) 1-0. Whitfield Town was the idle team last week in the 11-team league. The University of the West Indies (UWI) jumped four places into joint third, along with Swallowfield and New Kingston on nine points.

UWI and New Kingston edged Meadforest FC and Swallowfield 2-1 respectively.

Gordon Town remained rooted to the bottom of the table with one point after being swamped 4-0 by Maxfield Park, who have four points.
