Only five starters are slated to contest today's Caymanas Park open allowance feature for the Pringle Cup over 1100 metres, one of four trophy races on the 11-race programme which commences at noon.
Although all five starters have won races in recent months, the most recent being GIRL IN GOLD who landed the recent Gerry Skelton Memorial Cup over the distance on December 2, indications are that the fleet-footed DOUBLE BOW will blow them away with his speed in this small field.
Highly-fancied
Trained by Donovan Bruce, the four-year-old gelding by Law Of The Sea out of Tropical Fling was highly fancied to win over the straight five course when last raced on November 22, only to be caught and beaten by MUSICAL MAESTRO who broke the track record for good measure, clocking a wind-assisted 56.1.
DOUBLE BOW had earlier finished fourth to RAMPAGE in the Red Stripe Caribbean Sprint over 1200 metres on November 11 and having proved his mettle with a smart win over this trip back in March, should not be caught. He should lead home GIRL IN GOLD and DIESEL.
Elsewhere on the programme, the late-kicking JACK DE FREAK gets a glorious opportunity to win the Eggie Sutherland Memorial Cup (claiming $160,000) over 2000 metres, a race in which SIR CHACHA BABA and MANISH are twin dangers in a field of nine.
CHING SING, now lightly weighted and working well, gets the nod over POWER CRACKER, ME LLAMO and REGAL SERENADE in the 10th race for the George Headley Jr. Memorial Cup over 1400 metres, to be contested by 11 starters.
Trained by Glenville Morrissey, CHING SING, who is ideally suited to the distance, is slated to be ridden by in-form 3.0kg claiming apprentice Harriston Lewis who rode two winners on Saturday.
Firm fancies
The closing race for the Titania Trophy over 1100 metres looks tailored for the improving filly MALIKA, to be ridden by former champion jockey Trevor Simpson for 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny.
The three-year-old filly won easily over the straight in maiden company recently and now at a stage of rapid improvement, should stave off GI DEM A RUN, LIGHT MY FIRE and MELINDGATA in a field of 12.
Other firm fancies on the card are the promising two-year-old RUM TALK in the third, SHARMI MY LOVE to catch ROYAL FLAME in the fourth, fleet-footed ROBIN'S BAY to go all the way in the fifth and UGOTTABELIEVE over FLYING FIRETAIL and CHAMPAGNE & GOLD in the seventh race over the straight five course.
