Defending Under-19 cham-pions St. Catherine slumped to their second straight defeat of the season when they went down 59-58 to Meadowbrook in ISSA/KFC schoolboy basketball action at Meadowbrook high yesterday.
Once again, point guard Javaughn Bailey's 28 points and seven assists proved to be inadequate as the defending champion's suffered another narrow, yet stunning defeat.
Started on a roll
Meadowbrook, who managed to dominate against a much smaller St. Catherine line-up having lost some of their big men from last year, were led by 22 points from Dominic Bryan.
The title holders, who now have a 4-2 record, had started out the season on a roll, winning their first four games in a row.
In the day's other games, Wolmer's Boy's snatched a third straight win when they got by Dunoon 53-24 in their home encounter.
Wolmer's big man Adrian Blake led the way for the Heroe's Circle school, muscling in 11 points to see his team now advance to a 4-1 record. Dunoon's Kenny Allen put in an honest shift to top-score for the encounter with 16 points.
The game scheduled between Campion and St. Jago was not played, due to Campion having exam commitments.
In the only junior game played for the day, the Meadowbrook juniors also found themselves victorious and they turned back St. Catherine
55-28.
Tavari Newman led all scorers with 18 points.
In Monday's senior matches, Camperdown beat KC 62-58, and Jamaica College beat Ardenne 73-63. The St. George's College-Tivoli Gardens Comprehensive High contest, slated for Tivoli, was postponed due to malaria concerns.
