PORT-OF-SPAIN (CMC):
The Trinidadian Parliament on Thursday defended its decision to evict former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday from his constituency office, saying it could not honour a request to extend his occupancy of the office.
On Wednesday, workers from the Parliament went to the Couva North Constituency office of Panday in South Trinidad and removed furniture, computers and other office effects from the location.
Panday slammed the action saying it had been agreed that he would be allowed to use the office until December 31.
However, in a statement, House of Representatives Speaker Barry Sinanan said there had been regular communication between constituency office staff and Parliament staff to facilitate the winding down arrangement and "the Office of the Parliament received no request for an extension of time".
