A stuffed Christmas beagle is displayed in this undated handout. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has voluntarily recalled about 56,000 of the stuffed toys due to a possible choking hazard to young children, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday.
Several children's toys and clothing, including coveralls and Christmas lights, are among the items being recalled, according to a statement from the Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC).
The CAC has advised shoppers to be wary of these items when shopping this holiday season.
One item, the Children's Butterfly Necklaces, was recalled due to lead poisoning hazard,
while the Hobby Lobby Stores Incorporated Christmas light sets were withdrawn from the shelves due to shock and fire hazards.
The recall notices were sent to the CAC from the United States of America Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The U.S.-based commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from more than 15,000
consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction.
The CPSC also on Wednesday recalled See Kai Run Brand Children's Boots. The boots' snaps pose choking hazard for children. These boots are sold in pre-walk and toddler sizes three through nine. They are black with white stitching and are sold with either leather or faux fur lining.
Consumers are warned to stop using and purchasing recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
"The Christmas season of impulsive shopping is fun but can be fraught with danger. The simplest purchase could unknowingly turn your happiest moments into a tragic one," said Dorothy Campbell, communication specialist at the CAC.
