Maurice Chung was voted the most outstanding umpire for the 2006 season at last week's Jamaica Cricket Umpire's Association annual dinner and awards function held at the Hilton, hotel.
Chung, who has been an umpire for 15 years, collected the Lyndel Wright Trophy.
Desmond Edwards of St. Mary was voted the most outstanding junior umpire and was presented with the Thomas Wilson Trophy.
LONG SERVICE AWARDS
Umpires Vivian Johnson, Terence Richards, Clifton Parkes, Lebert Thompson, Paul Williams and Errol Lynch were presented with long service awards for over 25 years of service. Hugh Fogo, Astil Green and Ferrdick Haughton, Josclyn Simpson, Winston Lesley and Leopold Walters got 20-year awards.
Others were awarded for being the most active umpires in their zones. They are Wesley Parchment (eastern zone), Beverley Treasure (northern), Howard Scarlett (central) and Winston Hyatt (western). There were special mentions for Norman Malcolm who has been appointed to the international panel of umpires and Steve Bucknor for having officiated in 150 one-day internationals.
