West Indies' Marlon Samuels avoids a bouncer during the fourth one-day international cricket match against Pakistan in Multan on Wednesday.
A breathtaking century from Marlon Samuels powered the West Indies to an emphatic seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in the fourth one-day international in Multan. It gave the tourists a chance of levelling the five-game series which Pakistan now lead 2-1 with one game to go.
Samuels, 25, hit a six and 17 fours in his unbeaten 100 as the West Indies raced to 212-3 in 34.5 overs after dismissing Pakistan for 209 in 49.5 overs.
The right-handed batsman's even hundred came off just 99 balls, and this was enough for him to be named The Gleaner's Top Performer of the Week.
Samuels who scored his last century against India at Vijayawada in 2002, was in brilliant form sharing a match-winning record third wicket stand of 141 from 156 balls with Shivnarine Chanderpaul (60).
He brought up his second hundred in his 78th one-day international, pulling stand-in captain Abdul Razzaq to the square leg boundary for his 17th four of the innings.
"It's a special knock because of the situation. It was a special team effort and it's a lovely feeling to play an innings like that," was how Samuels described his knock.
"The big relief was not scoring the hundred but it is that I have been getting the opportunity to bat at four now. I'm just trying to make the best use of it right now," he added.
