Iyante maintain smashing form

Host Pembroke Hall were thrashed 3-0 by Iyante as action continued in division one of the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/ Northwest Development national table Tennis club league on Thursday night.

In other games, Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) trounced the University of the West Indies (UWI) 4-1 at Up Park Camp and Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) crushed Pembroke Hall II 4-1 in division three action.

At Pembroke Hall, Lawrence Reid eased past Sean Wallace 3-0 and Dale Parham overpowered Caswell Baylis 3-0 in singles matches, before Parham and Kane Watson whipped Wallace and Richardo Lee 3-0 in doubles to secure Iyante's 3-0 triumph.

At Up Park Camp, in singles play Michael Burgess crushed Michlos Swift 3-0, Omar Chambers whipped Richard Smallpiece 3-0 and Edward Massias trounced Robert Taylor 3-0. In doubles action, Chambers and Edwards overpowered Beluchi and Taylor 3-0 to complete the JDF's victory sheet. Beluchi defeated Ricardo Robinson 3-0 for UWI's lone win.

Iyante now sit atop the division one standings with 14 points, followed by the JDF on nine points, JUTC and Pembroke Hall with seven points each, and Friendship and defending champions University of Technology (UTech) on five points each.

The top four teams at the end of the preliminary rounds will contest the semi-finals.

Standings

Meanwhile, St. Ann Bauxite lead the third division standings in group three with 12 points, earned from four wins in as many matches. The JDF and Juici Patties have eight points each while UWI have four.

The division three win by JUTC in group four takes them to the top of the standings with eight points, one ahead of Windalco KSC I, followed by Friendship and Pembroke Hall II, which are tied on six points each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for quarter-finals.

The league continues tomorrow with Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club entertaining defending champions Melbourne in a women's match, and Windalco KSC II taking on Melbourne in division three. Both games start at 1:30 p.m.
