Grand Lido Braco aim at Breezes MoBay
The final of the all-island hotels beach volleyball competition, coordinated by the Western Hotels Sports Association, is on this afternoon with two SuperClubs properties vying for their first championship honours.
Overwhelming pre-competition favourites, Breezes Montego Bay, who were undefeated as Group B winners, travel to Rio Bueno in Trelawny, to play sister property and Group D winners, Grand Lido Braco Resort and Spa, who are having a dream season in sports competitions this year.
The match begins at 4.30 p.m.
Grand Lido are seeking to upset their more fancied opponents, Breezes Montego Bay, as they participated in the most competitive of the four groups in the 16-team competition.
They too are unbeaten, and according to Althea Thompson from the resort's Watersports Department, they like the underdogs' tag and feel all the pressure is on Breezes Montego Bay to prove they are worthy favourites.
The favourites, however, despite travelling for the first time in the competition, are playing exceptionally well and after their dominance in the semi-finals against arguably the most talented team in the competition, Rosehall Resort and Country Club, they are tipped to gain their first hold on the City Sports Trophy.
Grand Lido Braco Resort and Spa will be trying to add to their already impressive championship honours so far this year, where they won the all island hotels netball, football and domino competitions.
Retreat, Goshen rule
Retreat Primary and Goshen Primary were crowned football and netball champions respectively as the Stingray City Primary Championships came to an exciting end last weekend at Stingray City.
On the football field, a hat-trick from Gifton Cunningham ensured that Retreat got the coveted Stingray City trophy with a 3-2 win over Labyrinth.
Labyrinth made a gallant effort in the last 20 minutes and were rewarded with two goals.
Jermaine Jackson and Kemar Getten scored in the 39th and 41st minutes, but that was not good enough to peg back Retreat.
On the netball court-Goshen continued their amazing run to the championship by soundly defeating the pre-season favourites and perennial powerhouse Albion Mountain squad by a score of 19-10
