The Editor, Sir: At a juncture where leadership at almost every level of society is failing to lead, and ineptitude, coarseness and depravity seem to be the only motivation for the young people who are seeking guidance, one young woman - a bus driver - is quietly and sternly standing up and showing that there can be discipline and good order.
She drives a Jamaica Urban Transit Company Express bus which plies the route between Spanish Town and Cross Roads, St. Andrew.
In the mornings, while strong-bodied adults disregard the sticker on each bus driven by 'men' (Form A Line), and rush and tumble over children, old people and the disabled to get themselves into the other buses, everyone has to form a line, pay their fare and gently walk to their seat in her bus. A decision not to join or form a line, means that such persons cannot enter the vehicle she is in charge of.
It gives me much hope for the country each morning when I see her directing grown men and women and reminding them of their duty to be gentle and respectful of the other person.
She displays leadership and authority without condescension, loudness or the use of curse words. The passengers call her Tasha. Hey Tash, you are my WOMAN of the year.
I am, etc.,
