Search for Lyns intensifies
published: Monday | December 18, 2006

Police in Manchester continued their search for businessman Richard Lyn, 75, and his wife Julia Lyn, 71 yesterday, but up to press time, they had made no breakthrough. The couple was abducted from their home in Ingleside, Manchester, on Saturday, December 9.

Last Saturday night, the police detained two men for questioning in relation to the abduction of the couple. The police say the men's homes were being searched and arrangements were being made to have them interviewed. Items taken from the Lyns' home were reportedly found in the men's houses.

In addition, the police recovered a car and several other items taken from the couple's home, following a pre-dawn raid on Saturday.

The raid was conducted by a combined team of police from the Area Three Flying Squad, the Major Investigation Task Force and the Manchester police.

Yesterday afternoon, the police conducted a search at the bauxite red mud lake along the Winston Jones Highway. This attracted a large crowd of onlookers which fuelled rumours that the bodies of the couple had been found. However, the search turned up nothing. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Cleon Marsh, said yesterday that the investigation was intensifying and the search team remained optimistic.

A call for help

A $1 million reward, put up by the Lyns' family, is being offered through Crime Stop. Anyone with information that can help the police find the Lyns can call Crime Stop at 311. A statement issued by Crime Stop reminded that there is no caller ID, no69 and information can be given anonymously.
