What you can do?
published: Monday | December 18, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

There seems to be sudden concern by business persons in the Ocho Rios area about the appearance of the piers that serve the cruise shipping industry.

If the Government has neglected this area it can hardly be blamed, because, aside from lack of available funds these same merchants earn significant profits from their business activities, but are obviously unwilling to make the necessary investments in something that they benefit enormously from.

It isn't governments that build societies, but the people that reside in these societies. A great American president paraphrased this in a famous speech ... "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do ..."

I am, etc.,

ALSTON BROWN
