Violence claims two in Westmoreland
published: Monday | December 18, 2006

WESTERN BUREAU:

Two men lost their lives violently in the parish of Westmoreland during the past 48 hours.

Dead are 47-year-old Clive Cessor of Solas district, Burnt Savannah and 21-year-old Mark Powell of Auldayr district, Broomfield, in the parish.

Reports are that at about 8:00 a.m, Saturday, Mr. Cessor was standing at his gate when a white Toyota station wagon with three male passengers drove up.

The men alighted from the vehicle, pulled guns and imme-diately opened fire hitting him. He was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar hospital where he died.

In the other incident, Powell was at a wake in his district about 2:00 a.m., when a dispute developed between himself and another man. A fight ensued during which Powell allegedly used a bottle to inflict a wound to the head of the man.

It is reported that Powell was then set upon by a group of persons who stabbed him several times.

Both men were taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where Powell was pronounced dead and the other man treated and sent home.

The Savanna-la-Mar CIB is investigating both murders.
