Springfield dominated Greenwich, beating the youngsters 47-15 in an unexciting match on Saturday at the Leila Robinson courts in the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Jamaica National (JN) Open League competition.
The match was Springfield's to lose and that was not an option as the team secured their lead from early, ending the first half 26-10. Greenwich, however, had too many turnovers and careless passes, many of which could have been prevented if the team looked before passing the ball.
While there were also many missed shots, Greenwich lost far too many balls in the circle.
At the other end of the court, goal shoot Yhanore Johnson was a sure shoot. Her height was a great advantage over the Greenwich defence, who failed to jump to intercept overhead passes.
"The match was weak. The team was not up to our standard, it's a young team," Springfield's coach Wayne Stewart said. "But we were working on our goal shoot, to loop some balls to her. Yes, it worked about 50 per cent."
Lack of training
While Owen Webster, coach of Greenwich, agreed that his team was young, he said lack of training was their main problem.
"Generally they played a good game but we have not been training," he said.
