The three Portmore United players, Demar Stewart, Jason Morrison and Rafei Wolfe who are on trials with English Premier League outfit Sheffield United, have settled in nicely and are raring to go.

The players left the island on Friday and are scheduled to return on Sunday, December 24.

Horace Reid, Portmore's technical director, told The Gleaner yesterday that he had just spoken to the players before training.

Said Reid: "I spoke to them today (Monday) and they said they have settled in OK and they were off to training. They will train tomorrow and will play a game on Wednesday."

Reid noted that the trials were arranged by top football agent Phil Graham.

"We do have an arrangement with Phil Graham and it is his responsibility to look opportunities for our players. Claude (Davis) also plays for them and his performances also helped us," added Reid.

The hard-tackling defender Demar Stewart, 22, in a club release, said he has dreamt most of his life for an opportunity like this.

Ambition

"It has always been my ambition to be a professional football player in Europe. This burning desire has been fuelled even more during the period of my teenage years when I resided in England."

Demar's brother, Damion, plays for Queen's Park Rangers in the League Championship, which is one division below the Premier League.

Morrison, 22, a talented midfielder with four national caps, said he is very elated and intends to give his best.

"Claude Davis has provided me with a great deal of motivation in my quest to better myself and secure a comfortable life for my family," said Morrison, who relishes the chance to gain first-hand professional experience in England.

Wolfe, 20, who represented Jamaica at all junior levels, said he will be better for the experience.

"This is a great opportunity for me to expose my talent to the professional world. My entire family is overjoyed and it would be a fantastic experience to see first hand how football is organised in England."

Newly-promoted Sheffield United are currently 14th in the 22-team premier league on 20 points with five wins from 14 games.
