Melbourne hit double past Windalco

Defending division One women's champions Melbourne thrashed host Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club 3-0 on its way to registering two wins in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) Northwest Development national club league on Sunday.

In division three action at the same venue, Melbourne also recorded a 4-1 victory over Windalco Kaiser Sports Club II team.

The wins pushed the champions into second place in the points standings with 13, two adrift leaders Pembroke Hall on 15 points.

They are followed by Windalco KSC nine, UWI seven and newcomers Friendship three points.

The top two teams at the end of the preliminary rounds will contest the semi-finals.

National junior representative Janelle Morris edged reigning business house champion Andrea Wadsworth 3-2 and former national champion Kaydian Carney stopped Cecile McCormack 3-0 in singles matches, before Morris and Marsha-Rae McBean clipped McCormack and Kemesha Francis 3-2 in doubles for Melbourne's 3-0 win over Windalco.

Pembroke Hall lead division three with 12 points, followed by Melbourne on seven, Highgate United five and Windalco on four points. The top two teams from the group will qualify for quarter-finals.

In the division three encounter, Damion Scott won the first match for Windalco KSC II, beating Sheldon Watson 3-1. In the doubles match that followed, national junior player Stephen Tapper and Jermaine Johns crushed Dwayne Gayle and Roger Allen 3-0. Then in singles action, Tapper whipped Jason Welsh 3-0, Jason-Craig Thompson eased past Mario Wisdom 3-0 and Chevarlo Foster turned back veteran Justin Allen 3-1 for Melbourne's 4-1 triumph.
