THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS a joy to see that there are people who are thinking outside the box still among us.
With regards to your lead story in The Sunday Gleaner, where Mr. Kerr-Jarrett was advising the Government to address housing solutions alongside the present tourism development taking place in the west, I would like to extend this further by adding that the Government should not just stop at housing, but go further by developing all the other infrastructure that is needed in the social life of a growing community, such as proper fire stations, medical services, that is, paramedic units, training facilities, forms, research centres, proper day care centres, schools, reliable public transport, among others.
For too long, we Jamaicans have been left to fend for ourselves without the needed support from our leaders. All of these will provide opportunities for the indirect tourism beneficiaries to get jobs that will distract them from crime. Let us continue thinking outside the box and let tourism become a true all-inclusive investment that is of benefit to all Jamaicans by involving all Jamaicans.
I am, etc.,
