Almost everyone is playing Santa this week. Shopping for their loved ones' ideal Christmas gifts.
Store owners are reporting that sales have definitely increased since Monday.
"It's crazy," said Tariq Nembhard, marketing manager at Watt's
New, Tropical Plaza, St. Andrew. Yesterday, the old and the young flocked the electronics store wanting to purchase the latest video gaming console, Wii, and digital cameras.
The console is arguably the most sought after electronic this season. Pronounced as the pronoun "we", it is sold for approximately $36,000 excluding general consumption tax (GCT).
"I just came to check it out to buy one for my son, which we can play together as a family. His cousins overseas have it and now he wants it," said a mother of a five-year-old boy.
On the household end, shopping was on in earnest in the Cross Roads and downtown areas of Kingston. Thelma Azan, director of Azan's Supercentre in Cross Roads, said "everything in the store is going fast". Persons were purchasing household items such as vases and appliances as gifts, while buying rugs and carpets to decorate their homes.
"That is the colour curtain I have been searching for, for about three weeks now," said customer Marie Wilson, pointing to a sage green lace curtain that hung from a wall.
