CAMPBELL
Due to preparations for next year's Cricket World Cup, Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) has submitted a proposal to relocate all first-class matches that were scheduled for Sabina Park when the regional competitions are played early next year.
"No match is scheduled for Sabina Park," Paul Campbell, first vice-president of JCA, confirmed with The Gleaner yesterday.
"Initially, those two venues, Sabina Park and Trelawny, were schedule to facilitate testing," said Campbell, who added that they don't want to stop work at Sabina Park, and that the sewerage works at the Trelawny stadium was not complete.
If ratified by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), it would mark the first occasion in many years that a regional first-class match was not held at the venue.
Based on the initial fixtures with the umpires' appointment, Jamaica are scheduled to play Guyana at the multi-purpose stadium in Trelawny (January 20-23) while Sabina Park was set aside for the Barbados (January 28-31) and Trinidad & Tobago (February 5-8).
Changed fixture
However, The Gleaner has been informed that the JCA has changed its fixture for the matches, wanting instead to face Guyana at Kensington Park, Barbados at Chedwin Park and Trinidad & Tobago at Alpart.
"We have submitted changes. We asked for Guyana to be played at Kensington Park; Barbados at Chedwin Park and Trinidad & Tobago at Alpart, that's our proposal," Campbell said.
"We are waiting on their (WICB) input to find out if that is OK," Campbell noted.
Also, he said they are still waiting to find out if they will play the one-day matches - which are scheduled to be played two days after the four-day matches - at the same venues.
Jamaica will travel for its first two games against Windward Islands and Leeward Islands, starting on January 4.
