Showers that fell earlier that afternoon did not dampen the spirits at the Skyline Close residence of Rod and Nevine Heaven where the nuptials of Paulette Daly and Maurice Henry took place. The bride is a member of the Powerful Women Perform for Charity group and daughter of the late Neville and Avis Williams, of Robin's Hall, Manchester. The groom is the son of the late Claudius Henry and his widow, Gladys Henry. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Dave Spence and Rev. Nicole Ashwood.
Florist Dawn Lyew pulled out all the stops to create a picture-perfect setting for both ceremony and reception areas. She created tulle and satin-draped tent with masses of orchids and other fresh blooms, using burnt orange rose buds as the main focal point. Rectangular tables bore centerpieces of orange roses on
top of cream tablecloths with burnt orange runners. For the reception, the couple sat beneath a tulle-draped tent supported by varnished bamboo.
The team of coordinators comprised Paulette Champagne, Edna Lindo and May Lawrence Evans.
The bride was escorted down the red carpeted aisle by her brother Paul Williams and met by her groom singing, Forever My Darling. Maurice was in a mood to sing because when time came for his reply to the toasts, he took his bride by his side and sang, Can't Eve Walk Without You Holding my Hand." The wedding guests were asked to join in the chorus. But he did not stop there, for their first dance, he sang, Until the 12th of Never.
With the lights of the city forming a kaleidoscopic carpet below, master of ceremonies, Donald Foster guided a witty list of toasts with a suspense-filled bouquet throw and a humorous garter search. Bestman Maurice Henry Jr. almost stole the show with his 'confessions' of boyhood crushes on his step-mom, decades before she even knew she'd one day marry his dad.
A carefully selected repertoire of oldies was presented throughout the reception and high energy party that continued till 2:00 a.m., under the direction of musicians Dwight Pinkney & Friends, Charmaine Lemonius and Errol McGregor.
Carl Hart of Pantry Caterers received rave reviews for his wedding feast which included: fish thermidor, sweet potato souffle, gungo peas and rice, ham, roast beef and fresh garden salad. The groom's sister, Cecile Henry, Lady Mayoress of Nottingham, England baked the wedding cake which was later unveiled by the couples' siblings: Evadney Henry and Marie Williams-Brown.
Among the 250 guests, many of whom travelled from Germany, England, the United States of America, Barbados and Canada were Paul and Maureen Williams, Peter Wiliams, Michaela Douglas and her daughter Monique Douglas, Marie Williams-Brown, hubby Mike Brown and son Andre Chung, Justin and Jordan Daly, Monique James, Kurt Boothe, Natasha Williams, Daisy Westra, Franklyn and Phyll Williams and their children Gavin and Rachelle Williams; Val and Howard James, Roger Brown, Audrey Hinchcliffe, Trevor and Claudine Heaven, Custos Gilbert Allen and wife Georgia Allen.
