Make a super start with Verity

HEY TRAIN (No. 12), ridden by hot apprentice Carlton Malcolm for trainer Vin Edwards, gets up in the nick of time to beat highly-fancied CHIEF COUNCILLOR (Wesley Henry) by a short head in the eighth race for the Joseph Armond Memorial Cup over the circular nine course at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. The winner was a 3-1 shot. - Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer

Tomorrow's 10-race programme at Caymanas Park marks the final one before Christmas and punters will be keen to finish in the money, especially with a Pick-9 carryover of $1,015,990.50 in the offing.

Six punters spotted eight of nine winners, each receiving $22,680,00. One executive member of the Owners' Association was among them and when spotted at Acropolis in the night, lamented the fact that he missed 9-1 chance PRINCE ORPHAN in the fourth race.

Meanwhile, the Super-6 starts anew with the guaranteed minimum of $500,000. It embraces races five to 10, while the Pick-9 begins from race two.

We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a three-year-old maiden race in which the consistent grey filly, VERITY, is tipped to go one better.

Trained by Tensang Chung, VERITY has finished second in her two most recent races, the latter a week ago when caught and beaten by POORLITTLERICHBOY over 1400 metres. Prior to that she was also caught and beaten by a fast-finishing EL PEQUENO over the circular nine course.

Upstage old rivals

Connections have called for the promising 3.0kg claiming apprentice, Andre Martin, to ride VERITY on this occasion and she is expected to upstage old rival SEA CRACKERS and ISLAND DAN-CER in the nine-strong field.

CORDITE, now dropped in class, holds the key to the sixth race where STEAD GOLD and TYRONE SON are twin dangers.

The seventh race for native bred three-year-olds has attracted 13 starters and, with most enjoying good form, it should be a highly competitive affair.

Those expect to make it close are LIGHT MY FIRE, SUMMER WIND, SABER JET, MALIKA, WHITE DIAMOND and the lightly-raced but useful, WILD AT HEART, who has worked exceptionally well in preparation for this race.

Gets the nod

A three-year-old gelding by Aliases out of Wild Heart from the stables of returning champion trainer Wayne daCosta, WILD HEART won his first race over the straight back in January, leading home HIDALGO by 2-1/4 lengths.

He came back on November 25 and although soundly beaten by stable-companion BULLET TRAIN over the course, reports a different animal today.

With title-chasing Wesley Henry replacing the inexperienced appren-tice Delroy Beharie, WILD HEART gets the nod over consistent LIGHT MY FIRE and SABER JET.

PLEASURE CRUISE, who has been holding his form pretty well, is preferred to HIGH ROLLER, UNCLE D & ME and BREAKING NEWS in the eighth race, again over the straight, while it should be NO TEAR in the ninth and the down in class SENOR GATO in the 10th and final.
