The Bureau of Special Investigation (BSI) is boasting an increase in the number of case files being completed and sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
And the DPP, Kent Pantry, Q.C., has lauded this self-investigating arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, saying the BSI is not only completing more files but that the files are also camera-ready.
"I must commend you on not only completing so many files on time but I must say the files are often well done," Mr. Pantry told members of the BSI staff at an appreciation party at its Ocean Boulevard, downtown Kingston, offices yesterday.
Top investigator
Detective Sergeant William Kesler, who completed 40 files, emerged the top investigator for the year. His team of five combined to complete 152 of a record 451 case files completed by the BSI this year.
During a light party at the offices, which also featured an exchange of pixie gifts, head of the BSI, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Granville Gause, commended his team on their work, but reminded them that they still have more than 1,920 case files to send to the DPP.
In the midst of challenging his team to prepare for the challenges of 2007, ACP Gause charged his officers to remember the spirit of Christmas.
"Give somebody a gift. Not just somebody you like ... give to somebody you may not like ... give to the person who grew you up in the country. That's what Christmas is about," said ACP Gause.
