Harbour View rue missed opportunity
published: Saturday | December 23, 2006

A MISSED PENALTY, among other chances, left harbour View's coach Lenworth Hyde Sr. seething at their nil-all draw with Arnett Gardens, in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League match at Harbour View Mini- Stadium on Thursday night.

"I am very disappointed with the result because we should have gotten all three points from this game," said Hyde.

The draw also represented a failed opportunity at closing a five-point gap on leaders Waterhouse, who were also held goalless in their fixture at Ferdie Neita Park against Portmore United in the afternoon fixture on Thursday.

Hyde added: "I think we played well and created the chances them but we weren't finishing them. We also got a penalty and we didn't make use of it."

The match was the first for Arnett Gardens in more than two weeks owing to postponements related to the malaria scare and Caribbean Club Championships, in which Harbour View took part and their coach, Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey, said it affected their performance.

Bailey said: "The two weeks break affect us really bad in the sense that you could see that the team was match rusty.

"It was a scrappy game today, on both sides, you could see that the break affected both sides. But getting a point I think is the best result for both teams based on the quality football that was played today," Bailey explained.

Harbour View dominated the first half but were denied by a very organised Arnett Gardens defensive unit and their own strikers, Kavin Bryan, Kevin King and Gregg Taylor, were guilty of missing clear-cut chances.

Arnett Gardens' best chance in the half fell to Marcelino Blackburn, but his left-footed shot was spectacularly saved by custodian Dwayne Miller.

Penalty

In the second half, Harbour View were awarded a penalty in the 63rd minute after Bryan was brought down inside the six-yard box by Wayne Ellis.

However, Clifton Waugh failed to convert from the spot as his shot went wide of the target.

Afterwards, both teams lost a player as Arnett Gardens' Jerry Walters was sent off in the 72nd after picking up a second yellow card.

Six minutes later Waugh was also sent off after picking up a second yellow card.

Harbour View, though, got the last chance to steal the match but Bryan, with a clear opening, missed in the dying moments by sending his shot wide of the target.
