Lawyer offers to represent Lyn suspects
published: Wednesday | December 27, 2006

Two men held in connection with the disappearance of elderly Mandeville couple, Richard and Julia Lyn, are to be approached by a Mandeville attorney today.

The men, Lennox Swaby and Kevin Powell, who were held by the police following an early-morning raid at a Mandeville premises last weekend, have been without legal representation since they were apprehended, forcing investigators to consider transferring them to Kingston, where they believe they would get legal counsel.

Head of the Major Investigation Task Force, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Les Green, said the two men are to be approached by the attorney who has offered to represent both of them.

"Donald Ghetton is to approach them tomorrow (today). If they refuse representation, we may have to call in JPs (Justices of the Peace) to represent them," Mr. Green told The Gleaner yesterday.

Home ransacked

The Lyns went missing on December 9 after their Battersea home, near Ingleside, Manchester, was found ransacked. Several pieces of furniture and appliances, as well as their two cars - a grey Toyota Rav4 and a grey Toyota Corolla station wagon - were also missing.

Both vehicles, as well as furniture and appliances have since been recovered.

The search for the couple is to continue at a dump site in Mandeville today.
