The Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) will be hosting a camp for national squad swimmers between the ages of 10-15 starting today and concluding Saturday.
Coach Rob Emary of Broward Aquatics Swim Club in Fort Lauderdale, with the assistance of local coaches, will be conducting the four-day camp for approximately 30 swimmers.
This is the second year that Emary will be working with local swimmers and to add to the excitement of the camp, he has brought three 15-year-old swimmers from his club, Broward Aquatics, to participate.
Jackie Walter, Jamaica's coach, said the emphasis of the camp will be to provide endurance and the training base for the 2007 season and Carifta to be hosted by Jamaica in April 2007.
Said Walter: "This is the time of the year in swimming when you get your base work done for next year so it is really about getting your endurance up.
"It will be good for our swimmers because they have somebody else to train with," added Walter.
The schedule for the camp is as follows: Wednesday, December 27 5:00-7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.; Thursday, December 28 5:00 a.m.-7:00 a.m. and 3:00-6:00 p.m.; Friday, December 29 5:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.; Saturday, December 30 5:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
