The Editor, Sir:,
Crime has been showing its ugly head constantly especially in St. James, Clarendon and St. Catherine. In my opinion, the local police with the right training in modern techniques, skills and tactics can reduce the crime situation even to a third of what it is now.
Not that those from abroad are not doing a fairly good job, but with knowledgeable and experienced officers within the Police Force crime can be reduced.
We the citizens can and must play a major role within the society, but some of us with a poor mentality resort to massive demonstrations by blocking roadways.
There is a total breakdown where discipline is concerned which evidently leads to hatred, murders, dishonesty and vulgarity within a once beautiful and peaceful island.
We are not safe neither at home, work, on the streets or in the church. The criminals/murderers are a menace to the society and we as citizens must play our role although being targeted as spies, informers and 'whistle-blowers'. We must not let that hinder us from telling the truth, as only the truth can set us free.
We need to be vigilant and give the police our support.
I am, etc.,
