Condolence book opens for late US President
published: Friday | December 29, 2006

FORD

The United States Embassy in St. Andrew has opened a condolence book in memory of former President of the United States, Gerald R. Ford.

Members of the public who wish to sign the book may visit the U.S. Embassy's Old Hope Road offices. The book will be available for signing between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., today through January 19.

Praising President Ford as "a great American who gave many years of dedicated service to our country", U.S. President George W. Bush issued a statement expressing his sympathies to Ford's family, mourning the loss of a leader known for his "devotion to duty, his personal character, and the honourable conduct of his administration."

Former President Ford, the 38th president of the U.S., died on Tuesday at the age of 93. A National Funeral will take place on January 2 at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. President Ford will be buried later that day at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
