Host team Mountain View and Greenwich Town battled to an exciting 1-1 draw in their rescheduled Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Jamaica National (JN) Super League match at Excelsior High School yesterday.
The result elevated Greenwich Town to fourth place on 10 points, six behind leaders Jamaica Defence Force (JDF). Mountain View are now in joint eighth place with eight points.
Mountain View came out firing on all cylinders in the first half and missed a number of clear chances.
Rewarded
They were finally rewarded on the stroke of half-time when Sheldon Jones fired home a powerful 25-yard free-kick which went like a rocket past goalkeeper Horace Fairclough at his far post.
After the break, Nigel Morrison thought he had sent Mountain View further ahead but his close range volley was spectacularly saved by Fairclough diving full stretch to his left.
Five minutes later Jones was sent free courtesy of a through pass from Mark Francis but with Fairclough at his mercy, his right-footed shot went wide of the target.
After soaking up all the pressure from the home team, Greenwich Town got their equaliser in the 85th minute when Orlando Barrett dribbled his way past three Mountain View defenders then around goalkeeper Damion Murphy, then calmly placed the ball into the back of the net.
Late effort
Barrett again came close in the dying moments of the game but his close range effort was well held by Murphy.
"I am not totally satisfied with how my team played today because half of my players are still on holiday and a few on them are absent," said Keith Lattimore, coach of Greenwich Town.
"But I worked with the ones that turned up today and they fought to the end and we came away with a draw," Lattimore said.
Omar Stanley, coach of Mountain View, said: "I am very disappointed with this draw. The lack of finishing and poor defending was our downfall in this game."
