JLP pays tribute to Neville Lewis
published: Monday | January 1, 2007

LEWIS

Opposition Leader, Bruce Golding, has expressed profound regret at the passing of Neville Brice Lewis, former Member of Parliament, Cabinet minister and deputy leader of the Jamaica Labour Party.

Mr. Lewis, 76, who had been ailing for some time, died on Saturday night in Miami, Florida, U.S.A.

He served as the Member of Parliament for North West St. Elizabeth from 1976-1993, Minister of Social Security from 1980-1983, and Minister of Local Government from 1983-1989.

In paying tribute to Mr. Lewis, Mr. Golding remembered him as a quiet, but diligent person who worked hard and earned the love and respect of the people he served. As JLP deputy leader with responsibility for Area Four, he displayed a style of leadership that endeared him to the workers in that area, Mr. Golding said.

Mr. Lewis is survived by wife Jasmine, and children Toussaint and Nicole.

Arrangements are being made for his body to be brought back to Jamaica to be interred at the Lacovia Anglican Church Cemetery beside his father, Cleve Lewis, a former Minister of Communications and Works.
