All good at 'Midnight Magic'

It's hard to believe that French Connection Midnight Magic could get any better, but it did in 2K7.

The party, which was held at the New Kingston Golf Academy on Sunday night, had everything a patron could want - good food, good music, good decor, and good-looking people.

Though the venue was decorated with bright lights and red and white curtains, it was the French maids and the French 'aristocracy' who were eye-catchers as far as 'decorations' go.

Medieval flair

While some were dressed in long white gowns with a medieval flair, others donned similar styles of the time with horn-type headpieces. The men were not excluded: they wore brightly-coloured jackets and pirate pants.

Nonetheless, patrons partied on to the music of Renaissance disco and when Sean Paul's Eye Deh a We Knee, Voicemail's Let's Dance and Wacky Dip, among others, were played, hundreds of partygoers went wild, raising their hands and screaming.

A lone, but not lonely man at the back of the venue danced up a storm to the songs. He 'wacky dipped', 'stookied' and did the 'over-the-wall' to his heart's content. A few patrons who had simply been rocking to the music behind him soon commented that he was probably a professional dancer.

Still, he was quite a contrast to two couples, a few weird dance steps ahead.

As Alison Hinds' Roll played, one of the men turned to his female partner and did a wine of sorts to the ground, then made his way back up. The other middle-aged couple next to them probably thought ' oh there goes a cool dance move' because in no time they too were doing it.

Scrumptious food

But the music and the dancing wasn't enough to take patrons away from the scrumptious food. There's no doubt that some broke their 'I don't eat after 6:00 p.m.' rule, and frankly who could blame them?

Anything the heart desired was available - from shrimp to chicken, and the finest liquor.

Even at 2:00 a.m., patrons were still eating their meals at the fully-stocked tents. In short, if you missed French Connection on New Year's Eve, you missed the party of the year.
