TRN at birth
published: Tuesday | January 2, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

While it is an excellent idea to issue a free birth certificate to each parent that names their child at birth, I think the government should consider going one step further by issuing each child with a TRN number at birth, which has to be updated at age 18 to include their fingerprint.

Also it should be compulsory for every single citizen of Jamaica to have a TRN number. This will enable the government to have a better control on census and also on the tax net in the future, as they will know who is paying their taxes.

This is also an excellent way of tracking wrongdoers as no one will be able to do any form of transaction in Jamaica with any financial institution or Govern-ment entity without raising a red flag once they are wanted by the police. Let us copy something useful from the U.S.A. for a change. let us copy their social security number system.

I am, etc.,
