At least 66 members of the police force have been murdered by criminals over the past five years, according to statistics on the Jamaica Constabulary Force's (JCF) website.
Of that number, more than 41 were killed while on duty. A break down shows that 16 were killed in 2002; 14 in 2003; 11 more in 2004; 13 in 2005 and 10 last year.
Meanwhile, over the past four days, two more policemen have been killed.

Constable Clayton Salmon was the first member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) who died at the hands of criminals in 2006. His body was fished from an abandoned well, in an area known as Spanish Villa in March Pen, Spanish Town, St. Catherine. The body was found on February 1, four days after he was reported missing. The policeman's licensed firearm was also missing.
District Constable Aldrick Calbert was the second victim. He was murdered while playing a game of cards at a shop in Burnt Savannah, Westmoreland, on March 25. He was shot several times and his licensed firearm stolen. The 47- year-old district constable was attached to the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station.
Corporal Rohan White, who was attached to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, was attacked and killed by a group of gunmen at the intersection of Tower and Princess streets, downtown Kingston, on February 22. He was driving a service vehicle at the time of his death.
Victim number four, Stephen Johnson, a 52-year-old district constable was killed in the presence of his 20-year-old daughter in Southborough, Portmore, St. Catherine, on April 27.
The body of Constable Durval Oxford was found inside his private motor car on June 7, with multiple gunshot wounds, near his home in Thompson Town, Clarendon. Residents reported he was attacked about 8:00 p.m. on June 6, but his body was not found until 4:50 a.m. the following morning.
Sergeant Desmond Carter, 42, formerly of the Narcotics Division, was killed on Highfield Drive, in Ensom City, Spanish Town, St. Catherine, on May 26.
Corporal Lincoln Parker, who was attached to the Special Anti-Crime Task Force (SACTF), was murdered on June 4, he was shot several times while attending a dance being held at De La Vega City, Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
Another member of the SACTF was also found dead on September 9. Constable Richard Taylor of Point Hill district, St. Catherine, was abducted for several days, his body was later discovered near a pond in the district.
Special Constable Conrad Reid was shot and killed at a shopping plaza in West Cumberland, Portmore, St. Catherine, on October 3. Twenty four hours later, 43-year-old District Constable Linford Dennison was killed at a business establishment in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland.
