LETTER OF THE DAY - Memorable moments to cherish in 2006
The Editor, Sir: Let me take this opportunity to say kudos to you and your staff for sharing with the readers some memorable and significant events and accomplishments of 2006, but especially for some of the exciting research findings...

Selassie on freedom

The Editor, Sir: It is known that 'You can't please all of the people all of the time', so I was prepared for the fact that my advice "Forgive slavery, forget reparations" would not be welcomed in all quarters.

Negril Chamber supports 'fight'

THE EDITOR, Sir: The Negril Chamber of Commerce has followed with great interest the media debate regarding the mining licences in the Cockpit Country. We can only praise the stand taken by Diana McCaulay of the Jamaican Environment Trust...

Biased selections

The Editor, Sir: Next week, when the British High Commission opens for business in Kingston, many Jamaican parents will attempt to obtain a visa to visit their children in the British Isles.

Bad teatment of our young

The Editor, Sir: The death of six children under the age of six during the festive season, after being left at home alone, should be enough to galvanise the state to act. It cannot be business as usual.

Mercury danger?

THE EDITOR, Sir: I have recently been informed that mercury can be emitted in the production of cement. These emissions pollute bodies of water and, as a potent neurotoxin, it can harm developing brains.
