By next week, police expect to get results of DNA tests from two bodies found at a Manchester landfill nine days ago, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Les Green, told The Gleaner yesterday.
The bodies are believed to be those of Richard and Julia Lyn, a well-known couple last seen at their Battersea, Manchester home, on December 9, 2006.
"We will know next week whether profiles have been obtained from the bodies. Once they have that, they can then rate the other items which have been found and check them against the profiles of the bodies," said ACP Green.
The assistant commissioner was part of a police team that dis-covered the decomposing bodies in two abandoned cars at the Martin Hill Dump, just outside the town of Mandeville. Government patho-logist, Dr. Kadiyala Persaud, who performed an on-the-spot post-mortem, said the persons died from ligature strangulation.
The DNA tests are being conducted at the police forensic laboratory in Kingston.
Richard Lyn, 75, and his wife, 71, were reported missing in early December. Their two children, who live overseas, posted a one million-dollar reward for their return.
The police have since recovered several of the Lyns' missing possessions, including a Toyota RAV4. Five persons, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the couple's disappearance.
