The Editor, Sir:
I am not sure if it makes much sense to plead to you to stop the killings; 26 dead in 4 days!
There are so many of us who love our country, love our people, culture and customs, and whose hearts bleed at the thought of all the violence.
I wear my Jamaican pin daily, I have my Jamaican slippers, clothes, my flag on display in my car, my son at four years knows our anthem, I am proud to be Jamaican. I take pride in all things Jamaican, but what in heaven's name am I to say in regards to the falling of my Jamaican citizens?
This I ask of you:
Be your neighbour's keepers, help/save the next child you see falling into a world of crime.
Be parents who are too proud to settle for anything less than the best for your children.
Police officers, survival may be hard but pride yourselves in your profession, avoid corruption. clean up the society, bring those guilty to justice.
Gunmen, if you won't stop the killing for yourself then stop for your children, because one day they will be raped or killed.
Finally, just know that all Jamaicans abroad are always willing to help. Advise the government, take advantage of this.
May God's good grace continue to guide everyone.
I am, etc.,
