Harbour View, playing with 10 men for the entire second half, scored a hard-fought 3-2 win over August Town in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) game at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Bowl yesterday.
Gregg Taylor opened the scoring for Harbour View in the 13th minute before skipper Palmer struck in the 59th and 90th minutes.
Gary Brooks and Daniel Shaw converted for the home team in the 69th and 86th minutes respectively.
Harbour View, which registered their ninth win of the season, moved to 31 points and maintain second position behind leaders Waterhouse.
Coach happy
Winning coach Lenworth Hyde Snr. was happy for the three points, especially since his team played half the game a man short.
Said Hyde: "We played well when we went down (to 10) but I told them it's going to be an ugly win because of the surface and the wind, so they will have to fight for every ball."
Meanwhile August Town, sporting a new head coach in Hugh McCarthy, lost their seventh game of the season and remain second from bottom on 12 points.
A disappointed McCarthy refused to talk to the media, but his assistant, Dominique Spaulding, said it was a bitter loss at home.
Said Spaulding: "The game was an evenly contested game and playing at home and lose in this manner is hard to take.
"Coming from two-love down with four minutes to go, our defenders should be more cautious than that," explained Spaulding.
August Town got the first chance of the game but it was the visitors which struck first in the 13th minute. Taylor latched onto a deflected Palmer free kick to fire wide of goalkeeper Devon Haughton.
Reduced to 10 men
Just after the half-time resumption, Harbour View were reduced to 10 men after Christopher Harvey, playing his first game since returning from Trinidad and Tobago, was red carded in the 46th minute for dangerous play.
August Town, with the one-man advantage, took control, but it was Harbour View that doubled the lead against the run of play in the 59th minute.
A poor clearance from goalkeeping captain Haughton went to Palmer, who in turn fired a low, speculative 25-metre shot that somehow eluded the grasp of Haughton and trickled into the goal.
The hard-working Brooks pulled one back for August Town in the 69th minute before Shaw equalised from the penalty spot in the 86th to set up an intriguing final five minutes.
Once again Palmer silenced the home fans, popping up at the back post to tap home from a free kick in the 90th minute.
