Keep up the good work, Rev Samuels
published: Wednesday | January 10, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I would like to publicly commend Rev. Samuels on the work that he is doing in Montego Bay. As a former resident of that city and one who lost his stepfather by the hands of gunmen 18 months ago, and whose daughter was robbed of her pocket book and cellphone three weeks ago, I know firsthand how difficult it is to live and move about on a daily basis.

As a matter of fact, my mom only goes to work, supermarket and church. She will not let night catch her outside. This is the level of fear that the hard-working law-abiding citizens of Montego Bay are experiencing.

The fact that despite that, the Government has not moved with any meaningful social programmes or meaningful and sustained security operations, tells me that the state has failed the people of Jamaica.

This is why I welcome the intervention of Rev. Samuels, and would like to extend to him my fullest support. Please pass on my contact information to Rev. Samuels so I can see if there is anything I can do from this end to enhance his programme.

I am, etc.,
