Are we ready for CWC 2007?

The Opening Ceremony for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup is now just 60 days away. In order to determine Jamaica's preparedness for the event, The Gleaner will be seeking answers over the next few weeks to 59 questions related to the event.

1How ready are Jamaica's stadia for the hosting of the games?

2Have Kingston and Trelawny been fitted with the supporting infrastructure to welcome visitors for the games?

3. Will the Kingston waterfront be completed in time for the games?

4Will cruise ships dock in the Kingston Harbour during Cricket World Cup?

5When will the renovation work on the Kingston Craft Market be completed?

6How many roads are in need of urgent repair for the event?

7When will proper road signs be erected in the city?

8When are road repairs expected to be completed?

9What percentage of the North Coast Highway from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St. James, to the historic town of Falmouth, Trelawny, is completed?

10Will the road from the Sangster International Airport to the historic town of Falmouth be completed in time to deal with the world Cup traffic?

11What has happened to the the $635-million beautification project announced by the Prime Minister in time for the world cup?

12When will the demolition of derelict buildings begin?

13When will abandoned buildings be restored?

14What about the general facelift for communities around Sabina Park?

15When will the Local Organising Committee's (LOC's) park-and-ride locations be finalised?

16Has the LOC secured the use of the National Heroes' Park as a park-and-ride venue?

17When will information about the cost of parking vehicles and riding shuttles to venues be announced?

18Is the National Heroes' Park going to receive a facelift in time for the World Cup?

19Will St. William Grant Park be clean and ready for Cricket World Cup?

20How will vending in downtown Kingston be affected?

21On which streets will vending be allowed?

22Are special arrangements being made to house street people who live in the Kingston and Montego Bay areas?

23How will the various zones affect persons living, working or doing business in and around the areas of Sabina Park.

24When will be LOC start distributing passes to persons entering these 'sterile' area.

25Will renovation works at the Norman Manley International Airport be completed in time for the World Cup?

26Have enough volunteers, especially persons who speak a foreign language, signed up for the tournament?

27What is being done to ensure that local businesses benefit from Cricket World Cup?

28How can Jamaican businesses enjoy the synergism from the competition?

29When will we start seeing billboard and revision ads about the world cup?

30What is being done to incorporate the non-cricket fans into the tournament?

31Are information on tickets being effectively advertised?

32How involved is the Govern-ment in the Trelawny Home-coming week of activities

33Do the hospitals have sufficient equipment to deal with emergencies?

34Are there enough working ambulances available and in place?

35Are there enough emergency health care personnel to deal with cricket-related injuries?

36What is being done at the airports to ensure persons with life-threatening diseases do not enter the country?

37Does the blood bank have adequate supply of blood for the tournament?

38Are safe-sex messages being promoted, especially in red-light districts?

39Have we got past the stage where malaria is no longer an issue for Cricket World Cup?

40 What provision is being made for school children to learn about the historic significance of the World Cup?

42Are there enough security to police the stadia, shopping areas and the streets?

43 Are these security personnel properly trained in crowd control?

44What anti-terrorism measures have been taken to ensure the tournament flows smoothly?

45Is the fire brigade properly equipped to deal with emergencies?

46Are the islands two airports ready to handle the influx of visitors? During the Christmas holidays it was chaotic coming through.

47Are there enough domestic airlines to take passengers into Kingston from Montego Bay and back?

48Have tourism workers been trained to handle the volume of incoming passengers?

49Have the visa-distributing machines been purchased for both airports?

50When will these machines be installed?

51What will happen to these machines afterwards?

52Is everything in place to ensure hassle-free travel on the roads?

53Are budding young cricketers going to be allowed to see some games for free?

54Have the past West Indies players who have been promised tickets to the games been given these tickets?

55What category of tickets are these?

56What sort of social marketing programmes have been put in place to educate the people in Trelawny on the importance of the event.

57What is being done to ensure that Jamaicans do not breach the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 Act?

58What will Kingston and Trelawny look like once all the necessary infrastructure has been put in place?

59How likely is it for rural parishes such as St. Thomas, Portland and St. Mary to benefit from the event?
