published: Wednesday | January 10, 2007

Defending champions and hosts Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club (KSC) defeated Friendship 3-0 in one of three rescheduled matches as action resumed in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/National Northwest Development Club League at the weekend.

Windalco KSC I won 3-2 in division two, Windalco KSC I triumphed 3-2 in division three and Windalco KSC women's team won by default, with Friendship not fielding a team.

Despite the loss, Friendship still lead division two, group 1 point standings with 14. They are followed by Melbourne and UWI on nine points each, with Windalco KSC I on seven points. Windalco KSC I have two matches left to play against UWI and Melbourne, which also have one match apiece remaining.

The top two teams will advance to semi-finals (Friendship have already qualified), to be played in the University of Technology (UTech) auditorium on Sunday, January 28, when the league will end.

Pembroke Hall leads the standings in the women's division with 15 points, followed by defending champions Melbourne on 13 points, Windalco KSC 12 points, UWI 10 points and Friendship 3 points.

The win by Windalco KSC I in Division Three takes them to 10 points in the group four and second position behind leaders JUTC (11). They are followed by Friendship (8) and Pembroke Hall II (6). The top two teams will qualify to the quarter-finals.

Windalco KSC I and Pembroke Hall II each have two matches remaining, while JUTC have one.

In the Division Three encounter, veteran George Hyman crushed Cai 3-0, Sean Chang edged Don-Walker Petinaud 3-2 and Patrick Clarke overpowered national junior player Shaunda Brash 3-0 to secure victories for Windalco KSC I. Flowers turned back Carl Powell 3-1 in the singles and teamed with Cai in doubles to nip Hyman and Chang 3-2, for Friendship's two consolation victories.
