Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) sent Arnett Gardens packing, while Harbour View and Santos scored close penalty-kick wins as the Western Union/KSAFA Jackie Bell Knockout yesterday.

The JDF, after playing to a 1-1 draw with Arnett Gardens, ambushed their opponents to emerge 2-1 winners on penalties at Up Park Camp.

Ted Martin headed the marching men of the army into a 16th-minute lead, but the ever-dangerous Marcelino Blackburn equalised in the 87th to force extra-time and eventually, penalty kicks.

The soldiers lived up to their word of not losing a shootout as substitutes Robert Wright and Cecil Sturridge found the net, while Kwame Richardson was the only Arnett player to do likewise.

Harbour View went within three minutes of losing before beating Super League outfit Bull Bay 5-3 on penalties after fighting to a 1-1 draw in normal and extra-time.

Santos edge duhaney park

In the third game, Santos edged fellow Super League outfit Duhaney Park 6-5 on penalties, after also playing to a 1-1 and extra-time draw.

Over at the Bull Pen in Bull Bay, a fifth-minute strike by Jermaine Edward gave Bull Bay the lead which they held comfortably.

The likes of captain Richard Brown, player/coach Barrington Gaynor, Kedrick Bailey, Dwayne Gaynor, Edward and Victor Samuels all looked to secure a win for Bull Bay against a full-strength Harbour View team.

Fabian Taylor, Donald Stewart, Kemeel Wolfe, Kavin Bryan, Loxley Thomas, former Bull Bay player Nicholas Dodd, Robert Scarlett, Christopher Harvey and Jermaine Taylor could not find a way through.

But as fate would have it, an injury forced goalkeeper Wayne Roberts out of the game and his substitute Devon Christie was put under immediate pressure.

Christie eventually wilted in the 87th minute, allowing a shot to fall from his grasp and the alert Petrekin slotted home.

The entire extra-time was one-way traffic as Harbour View, with the momentum, pushed for the clincher but had to wait until penalty kicks.

Jermaine Taylor, Scarlett, Harvey, Wolfe and Kevin King all scored for the winners.

Bull Bay's Richard Brown, Owen Ellis and Kedrick Bailey tucked away their penalties, but Dwayne Gaynor's shot cannoned off the crossbar.

Winning coach Lenworth Hyde, said he expected a tough game as is customary against their neighbouring community Bull Bay.

Bad surface

Said Hyde: "I expected it, any time we and Bull Bay play it is always a competitive game. But I think the surface was bad and we didn't get to play our style of football."

Hyde then took a swipe at fellow coach Gaynor for resizing the playing field.

"He brought in the field to his liking and we had a long time adjusting to the narrow width of the field. But we adjusted in the second half and played better," noted Hyde.

Meanwhile, Bull Bay's coach, Gaynor, who is also the coach of premier league champion Waterhouse, said his team played well to pull off a shock result.

Said Gaynor: "I think we did a good job with three minutes to go. We lost our first string goalkeeper and the reserve didn't have such a good game and we gave up a soft goal."
