A 17th-minute strike from Georgia Thompson carried Wolmer's to a 1-0 victory over St. Andrew High in the University of the West Indies Invitational Six-A-Side Hockey tournament at the Mona Astro Turf yesterday.
In the 30-minute encounter, the first half was evenly contested with both teams sharing equal amounts of ball possession.
Nifa Murray got Wolmer's best chance in the half but her shot went just wide of the target.
At the other end, St. Andrew High's Stephanie Channer also went close but her effort from near-range was just wide of the target.
Wolmer's came out in the second half looking the better team and quickly took the lead two minutes after the break when Thompson fired home from close range.
Michelle Thomas came close to giving St. Andrew the equaliser in the dying moments but shot wide of the target.
Norris Davis, coach of Wolmer's, was pleased with his team's effort.
"I am very happy with the victory. The intent was there and they stuck to what they were told to do," Davis said.
Too relaxed
Coach of St. Andrew High, Dr. Michelle Holt, said: "We did not played to our potential ... we were too relaxed."
She added: "Sometimes I think that we have to lose a match for us to really get ourselves back on track."
