100th Anniversary of Kingston Earthquake

Today, January 14, 2007, marks the centenary of the Great Kingston Earthquake and Fire of 1907 that ravaged the Capital City at approximately 3:30 p.m. on January 14, 1907.

This earthquake took more than 1,000 lives and destroyed much of the buzzing commercial district of the city. The Institute of Jamaica, through its divisions, the National Gallery of Jamaica and the Museums of History and Ethnography opens the exhibition 'QUAKE' today at 11 a.m. at the Institute of Jamaica Exhibition Gallery, corner of East and Tower streets, kingston.
