Contractor General Greg Christie. - fileContractor General Greg Christie has said that several public bodies have been exempted from submitting their 2006 second- and third-quarter contract award reports with the Office of the Contractor General.
A January 12 deadline was given by the Office of the Contractor General for all public bodies to file these reports or face prosecution.
191 Companies Complied
A significant number of the 191 public bodies that were in breach of the law complied before the final deadline expired.
However, in his request for public bodies to file their reports, Contractor General Greg Christie had explained that agencies that did not file should "show cause why they should be exempted from doing so."
The Office of the Contractor General has outlined the circumstances under which a number of public bodies received exemption from submitting their quarter contract award reports.
Circumstances
It explains that even though the entity is a public body, its procurement is done by another public body under whose authority it falls.
In addition, the entity might have previously been a public body as defined in the Contractor General Act, but has since been divested.
An entity, establishing that it is not a public body under the Contractor General Act but in fact is "an international organisation" also received exemption from filing quarter contract award reports.
