The Editor, Sir:
I have read with near despair and certainly a lot of disgust the theatrics of our parliamentarians on the Public Accounts Committee in dealing with a serious issue.
These persons who are caretakers of the public purse treat the matter of the cost overruns at Whitehouse, like the Trafigura and the NSWMA scandals, as nothing. Instead of seeking to arrive at some realistic view of how and why the overruns took place, we have a behaviour that parallels the tenement yard, standpipe- type because protection of party and opposition to each other are more important than the protection of the public purse.
Why am I surprised? Isn't it the philosophy of 'ride wid it'? I do not know if Members of Parliament are aware, but their conduct, the fact that they are overpaid and underworked and the country shows no progress under their care, has left many of us loyal Jamaicans fed up with them.
May I remind those who occupy sinecures now that "Every day bucket go a well, one day bottom must drop out."
I am, etc.,
