Wadadah FC and Village United continued to show less than impressive form in the 2006-07 Wray & Nephew National Premier League competition as they battled to a lacklustre draw in their western derby at the Elliston Wakeland Youth Centre, in Falmouth, which has left them rooted in the lower half of the 12-team point standing.
Village United's coach Fitzroy 'Johnny' Reid, whose team has collected four points in their last two games after scoring a surprise win against champions Waterhouse FC and a draw against Portmore, was very disappointed, claiming that the team played without purpose
Disappointing game
"This was a disappointing game for us today and I put it down to the fact that the players were not thinking out there," said coach Reid. "We will definitely have to go back to the drawing board and work on our finishing."
Wadadah's coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams said he was not entirely happy with the allround performance of his team but said he was happy to come away from the game with a share of the points.
"A victory would have suited us better but we won't cry over the one point we got," said Williams. "Defensively, I thought we played a sound game. However, our goal-scoring form needs to be addressed as we are missing two many easy chances."
The game started with Village enjoying the better of the early exchanges and with better finishing they could have had a few early goals. Firstly, in the 12th minute, Ricardo Reid won possession just outside the goal area but drove his shot wide of the goal. Four minutes later, Luke Tate pounced on a lofted cross but directed his header wide of the goal.
Midway the half, Village got and squandered two further chances. In the 19th minute, Reid found himself alone before the goal but he hesitated, fumbled and then fired wide. Three minutes later, Reid wasted another opportunity when he got to a lofted cross first but nodded wide.
With time running out in the half, Wadadah got the first chance of the game in the 44th minute when Jermaine Anderson ran away from the Village defence but fired his powerful grounder wide. The half-time whistle came shortly after.
In the second half, both teams continued to create chances but faulty finishing continued to let them down. In the 53rd minute, Anderson missed a 'sitter' when he booted wide from six yards. Two minutes later, Village missed a similar opportunity when Reid flicked a cross just wide of the goal. Towards the end of the game, Village just missed snatching a late winner when Newton Sterling got away on the edge of the area but his powerful shot was well saved by goalkeeper Gavin Barrett.
