August Town Football Club returned to winning ways with a workmanlike 2-0 win over Boys' Town in a Wray and Nephew National Premier league match
at the Barbican Sports Complex yesterday.
Goals by Gary Brooks (57th minute) and Tremaine Stewart (85th minute) led the way for the visitors in a spirited second-half display.
Happy
Hugh McCarthy, coach of August Town, was happy with the victory.
"It's a pretty long time we haven't won a game in the Premier League and I am happy for that," a smiling McCarthy said.
He added: "The confidence of the players has improved and they are playing a little better. We played a fairly good game although we played in patches in the first half. We dominated the second half and deserved to win."
Stewart, an Eltham High Manning Cup player, had earlier given a preview of his brilliance with a beautiful shot from about 40 yards out, and was only denied a goal by the crossbar as the ball rebounded into play a minute from the interval.
Brooks also got a chance in the first eight minutes of the match when he missed an easy chance from close in. His shot grazed the right post and went out of play.
Boys' Town's Jermaine James got the clearest chance of the opening half - a free header that went inches wide of the left upright after a cross from the right side by Fabian Watkins.
The standard of the game somewhat dropped as both teams got tired towards the end.
No excuses
It was one of Boys' Town's worst performances of the season, but coach Andrew Price was not looking for any excuses.
"It was a very lethargic display, we were outplayed," Price said, while adding that his team was outperformed in every department of the game. He stated that the loss of his home ground was not a factor as both teams were playing on the same field.
August Town moved to 15 points and Boys' Town remained on 19 points.
