Parking jam at Caymanas
published: Tuesday | January 16, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I would like to through this medium express the dissatisfaction felt among patrons, myself included, in the arbitrary manner users of the Caymanas car park are treated.

I refer now specifically to patrons who are prepaid users. The most recent incident was on Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26, 2006. After the running of the feature race many of us patrons decided to leave the park for various reasons.

Jammed cars

On reaching the car park it was evident that no one would be able to move for a very long time, cars were jammed two and three wide in most areas resulting in total chaos. Numerous motorists couldn't even think of moving, while those who tried to soon realised their efforts were futile.

For some inexplicable reason, the motorists who had double and triple-parked were amongst the last patrons leaving the stands. I waited one hour and 20 minutes before being able to leave.

To the promoters please be reminded that we are ardent fans who are consistently at the races and are delighted to see the park "bursting at the seams". However we do not think it's fair that our convenience should be compromised to facilitate "big race day fans".

Could the authorities consider utilising the infield to accommodate motorists when the park is full and the infield is not occupied by sponsors as was the case on Boxing Day?

I am, etc.,

W. BURNETT
