The Shipping Association of Jamaica will relaunch its monthly Lunch and Learn series today. Launched in mid-2006 to raise awareness among shipping industry personnel, particularly newcomers to the industry at the junior and mid-management levels, the Lunch and Learn series has become a staple on not only the shipping industry calendar, but those of affiliated industries.

The idea behind the Lunch and Learn sessions is that during an hour-long lunch session, members and affiliates of the shipping industry are informed about various issues and developments relating to the sector. It is expected to be an informal exchange of ideas and information as the association seeks to educate and develop industry stakeholders and employees, by engaging experts who possess extensive experience and knowledge in various aspects of the maritime transport field.

Port Security Agenda

This month's seminar entitled, 'America's Port Security Agenda: Implications for U.S.-Caribbean Trade', will be delivered by Andrea M. Ewart, international trade attorney and customs consultant out of Washington, D.C. Mrs. Ewart has decades of experience in the trade and customs arenas, with particular emphasis on the Caribbean, and has also presented and written numerous articles for Caribbean audiences about the CARICOM Single Market and Economy and other trade agreements and their implications for Caribbean businesses.

This month's seminar is being hosted with the kind sponsorship of Assessment Recoveries Limited. In the upcoming months other topics to be presented include: 'Threats to maritime security: terrorism and criminal activity', 'Kingston as a regional 'hub port': competitive or comparative advantage?', 'The 'missing links' in Jamaica's logistics supply chain', among others.
