JCC wants proof Trafigura money was returned
published: Thursday | January 18, 2007

The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) has repeated its call for Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to tell the public whether her ruling People's National Party (PNP) has returned the money from Dutch oil trading company Trafigura Beheer.

In a statement Tuesday, the JCC said this was one of several questions that remained unanswered following the Trafigura scandal and the oil trading company's $31 million 'gift' to the PNP which was revealed in Gordon House by Opposition Leader Bruce Golding, last October.

Awaiting clarification

"... All of Jamaica have been anxiously awaiting that clarification of what transpired and what corrective action will be taken to deal with the issue, as well as to prevent its recurrence," the JCC said. "We had all hoped that this would have been forthcoming before year end 2006 but are hoping that it will be one of the first matters with which the PM deals in this new year."
